Axis is a visual browser which seamlessly switches between desktop and iPad. The browser which faces tough competition from Google’s Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer was released on an iPad and iPhone app and a desktop plugin that smartens up your current browser. Rather than trying to break the stranglehold that IE, Chrome and Firefox have, Yahoo opted to create a plug-in for these browser which brings a new visual style to the table.
Once Axis is installed, users will receive their search results as a horizontal display of web page thumbnails that pop up along the bottom giving you an at-a-glance look at potential websites, helping to recognise what types of sites you may visiting. Technology geeks who have tried it have praised its design and functionality. Bookmarks have also been given the visual flavour – similar to the home-screen of Chrome or the way most smartphones display your shortcuts.
If you are using an iPad or iPhone then Axis will sync with your desktop browser allowing you to pick up seamlessly where you left off.
The browser market is becoming more competitive, as the latest figures reveal that Google Chrome has recently overtaken Internet Explorer to become the most widely used web browser in the world. The Statcounter figures also suggest that Google Android’s built-in browser is now the most popular programme on mobile phones.
