Microsoft has announced three different editions of its new operating system including one specifically for tablets.
Users with Intel-compatible machines, the operating system will be available in two versions – Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro. For those users with devices, mainly tablets, powered by ARM-designed chips there will be a Windows RT version.
The RT version further indicates Microsoft’s commitment to moving into the touchscreen devices. It will come pre-installed on computers and tablets powered by ARM processors. Windows RT will sit alongside Applie iOS and Google’s Android operating systems.
Windows 8 is the standard, consumer-based model which will be found on most new home PC’s, while Windows 8 Pro will include extra features such as file encryption, virtualisation of operating systems and domain management.
Windows 8 brings flexibility as you will be able to use a touchscreen or a keyboard and mouse and switch at any time.
For the first time since its birth, the trademark Windows “Start” button will no longer appear – instead being replaced by a sliding panel-based menu.
