Google has officially unveiled its next project “Loon”. The project is balloon powered Internet for all!
It is currently estimated that two thirds of the world still don’t have access to the internet. Loon is a network of balloons on the edge of space that provide accessibility to the internet in remote areas. The project is also aimed at helping disaster hit areas get on-line quickly after an event has happened.
The project is starting in New Zealand and a group of users will connect to the system via antennae on the side of a building. The idea is that the signals are bounced between the balloons and then back down to the internet on solid ground.
